Cyberjaya, 22nd September 2018 – The Asia Metropolitan University (AMU) Executive Degree in Healthcare Management (Dietetics & Nutrition) programme commenced officially on 22nd September 2018. Present at the opening ceremony were Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Palaniappan; Group Managing Director & Group Chief Executive Officer of Minda Global Berhad, Dato Sri Dr Alex Ong; Vice President of NHNA, Associate Professor Dr Anbalagan Krishnan; Deputy VC (Academic) Research & Development and Industrial Collaboration, Professor Dato’ Dr Jayles Yeoh; Deputy VC of Internationalisation Asia Metropolitan University, Mr Subramanian Amamalay; AMU Executive Director and respective Programme Coordinators. Almost 50 students were present during the two-day seminar, conducted from 22-23 September 2018.
This multifaceted programme aimed at producing knowledgeable and competent healthcare executives with sound knowledge in dietetics and nutrition. In the effort of cultivating lifelong learning skills, the programme also sought to produce healthcare graduates with good communication and managerial skills while being creative and innovative at the same.
The programme will further equip executives to work with medical professionals and allied health personnel in a leadership role and develop skills to manage multiple levels of work such as customer service, medical paperwork and day to day administrative duties. Participants will also have the chance to venture into challenging areas in the ever-growing healthcare industry.
“By offering this Executive Degree programme, we do not only intend to produce a workforce with sound knowledge of dietetics and nutrition. We aim to produce professionals with solid leadership, team work and problem-solving skills. This initiative also emphasizes on both, professional attitudes and ethical conducts whereby each play a vital role in the decision-making process of the healthcare industry,” said Deputy VC, Associate Professor Dr Anbalagan Krishnan, in his welcoming remark.
The programme’s first module focused on ‘Introduction to Healthcare’ and it was conducted in two parts, first by lecturer, Dr Sumeera Subramaniam from AMU and the second part by Dr Rebecca Tiew from NHNA. Sessions conducted throughout the seminar were mainly adult learning oriented whereby participants were exposed to various teaching methods including group discussion / sharing, presentations, flipped classroom and role play sessions.
The Executive Degree in Healthcare Management (Dietetics & Nutrition) is a non-MQA programme offered by AMU, offered under the Healthcare Department that is parked under the Faculty of Business, Management and Information Technology. Upon completion of the programme, participants will be awarded with an Executive Degree in Healthcare Management (Dietetics & Nutrition).
This 14-months’ Executive Degree programme will see participants returning on 17th November 2018 for its’ second module, Business Communication that will be conducted by Ms Lovina Yogarajan.
