KUALA LUMPUR, August 2 – Following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier this year between Asia Metropolitan University (AMU) and the Higher Education Bureau, National MIC Youth to provide scholarship to academic performers, four students have been identified and granted scholarship packages through this effort today.

The scholarship offerings via the MoU is a culmination of one of the shifts outlined in the Malaysia Education Blueprint to make education more accessible to every eligible Malaysians.

“It is an undeniable fact that education is particularly important to alleviate the socioeconomic profile of a community as it directly improves the economic efficiency of a country.

“Although we have achieved various milestones to raise the educational attainment, especially amongst the Indian community, we still have a long way to go, and we are very grateful to have Asia Metropolitan University as the preferred education provider to shoulder the responsibility together with us in realizing this collective vision,” emphasized Dato Sivarrajh Chandran, MIC Youth Chief.

The scholarship recipients and their programs are Kirthana A/P G. Rajalingam (MBBS), Kausalya A/P Thiyagarajan (MBBS), Veslinthapriya A/P Selvarajan (Bachelor of Pharmacy) and Shopana A/P Peter (MBBS).

The scholarship packages will be offered to those who have successfully applied for one of the six programs offered by AMU — Foundation in Health Science, Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Bachelor of Imaging & Radiotherapy.

Successful applicants for MBBS will be entitled to a scholarship amount of RM100,000 and full scholarship amount will be granted for successful applicants of Foundation in Health Science, while the remaining four programs will be eligible for a 50 percent relief from their tuition fees.

AMU is one of the key players in Malaysia’s private tertiary education scene, equipped with state of the art facilities, qualified lecturers and recognised programs from local authorities as well as professional bodies is considered the perfect education provider for National MIC Youth to collaborate in providing accessible education to potential candidates.

As such this collaboration provides us with the advantage to harness the synergies and insights from National MIC Youth to further enable us to deliver, and in return providing high achieving candidates with access to attain their educational goals,” expressed Puvan Balachandran, Bursar & Chief Operating Officer of Asia Metropolitan University.
